Having control is a great feeling, we often seek to control our situation.  During this time of the virus it can be difficult to control the situation.  In today’s story we read about the prophet Daniel who proved himself time and time again that he was trustworthy. Some of the other ruling officials did not like Daniel and they look for a way to get him removed from favor with the King. There was a decree made that would lock anyone from changing it.   Daniel who did all the right things was put in a position where he had no control. Daniel would have to put his trust in God to save him or to take him.  Take a few moments to read Daniel chapter 6 and find out the rest of the story.

Discussion questions:
  1. Go around the room and discuss your first thoughts about the story.
  2. Additional questions
  3. [Children] Retell the story in your own words? Tell how Daniel was a good man and God took care of him.
  4. [Children - Adults] We are told that Daniel was one of the most intelligent and trustworthy leaders, why do you think the other leaders (Satrap=Governor) were jealous of Daniel?
  5. [Children - Adults] Discuss a time when someone younger, a peer or older than you either won a prize or received a promotion you felt they didn’t deserve.  How did that make you feel?  Have you ever felt the need to “catch” them doing something wrong?  Why do you think we have these energies?
  6. [Children] How did King Darius feel about having to punish Daniel?  Did you notice Darius was rooting for God to step into the situation?
  7. [Teens - Adults] Did you notice that the “law” took over emotions in this situation? Control was taken from the King and Daniel.  Have you ever been in a situation where you were not in control of that situation?  What happened?
  8. [Teens - Adults] Tell of a time when you asked God to prove your innocence in a situation months or years later?
  9. [Teens] I’m sure you heard the story about Daniel in the Lions Den multiple times in children's classes or Vacation Bible School.  After reading it today, what things surprised you about the story?
  10. [Adults] In retrospect, can you see a time when you were not in control and had to let things play-out to prove a truth?  Discuss that moment(s).
  11. Take a moment and pray a prayer of gratitude for God’s living presence in our daily lives.
