HOME GUIDE | JUNE 14,2020
SUMMARY | This moment in time we are experiencing so many different series of experiences at once.  Can you imagine what it would have been like for people to have social media in Jesus’s day?  It’s easy to imagine some of the ‘posts’ people would make about the messages Jesus taught or the official stances from the Pharisees (strict religious law holders).  It wouldn’t be inconceivable for them to wish they had a recording of all that was going on storied in the ‘cloud.’  As we lean into the Mission and Vision of the church we have the opportunity to read and reflect on the accounts from the people who were present.  Take a few moments and read Matthew 28 & Acts 1:1-11. Think about how you would describe the events that were taking place.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS |
  1. [Children]Activity: Have the children draw what comes to mind throughout today’s discussion.  Help them use their words to describe what Jesus was doing in the readings above.
  2. [Teens - Adults] Tell of a time where you witnessed a situation that you just had to tell others about? What was it, what was happening, what was the result?   Bonus: if it was a time where you saw God step in and answer a prayer.
  3. [Children - Adults] In Matthew 28, Jesus told the group to Go, baptize, teach and make disciples.   What does that look like in your house or community?   Are we doing this as a family?  How, when… Pray, spend a few moments collecting prayer requests from each person in the room. Items of concern and gratitude.
  4. [Teens - Adults] Describe the emotions that the disciples were possibly feeling when they witnessed Jesus going into the sky?  Or when the angels told them what was next.
  5. [Children - Adults] Find a blank piece of paper or a whiteboard, go around the room asking about any concerns or thanksgivings before a time of Prayer.   Leave this paper where you can see it all week, discuss them everyday and see where God might be working in them.
