HOME GUIDE | JUNE 21,2020

Authors: Mark Hixson and Brandon Hurt

SUMMARY |
One of the best experiences is attending a gathering of people from your past, like a family reunion, annual camping trip, and church gatherings. Nostalgia brings a lot of pleasant emotions and powerful reminders.  In today’s lesson, we read about a situation where many God-fearing people from many different cultures all come together for a moment of remembering and spiritual balancing. There is an event that takes the place of the supernatural experience that will set a new direction for the hearers and standards for hearers today.  Take a few moments and read Acts 2:1-13.  Be encouraged to think about everything that has taken place before this moment and how it has an impact on thousands of people going forward. This event affects you, me, our children, and our children’s children.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS |
  1. [Children] Activity: Have the children draw what comes to mind throughout today’s discussion.  Help them use their words to describe what GOD is doing in this storyline.   Here is the link to a video that can help with today’s lesson; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMQKy1Mx49M
  2. [Teens - Adults] What’s stands out from today’s reading? Also, what questions come to mind?
  3. [Children - Adults] Have you ever wondered why so many people of different languages were present around the disciples?  Why would they require to hear the message in their own language?  (Hints Jewish festival Shavuot, Pentecost)
  4. [Children - Adults] In verse 6, the text describes the emotions of everyone who came to hear the noise.  Why were they in "bewilderment?"   [Note: What everyone heard is what is sometimes referred to as "Speaking in tongues."]
  5. [Teens - Adults] What does it mean to be a “witness” about God?  How do we “witness” about this event today?
  6. [Teens - Adults] Looking at vs12, comparing it to our lives, what events are taking place that leaves us asking “what does this mean.”  Part 2: Using your knowledge about God (OT stories, Jesus Teachings), how might you answer the question?
  7. [Teens - Adults] What do we know about the Holy Spirit?  Does the Spirit involve itself in our lives today?
  8. [Teens - Adults] Last week you were challenged to write down your prayer request and reflect on where God might be present in these requests.  Now is a good time to follow up on those discussions.
  9. Take a few moment a pray about all that in our hearts at the moment, take God for what we do have, ask God to show us the best way to be a light in the community.
  10. Join us for today's online worship service.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS | Family Activity from last week
[Children - Adults] Find a blank piece of paper or a whiteboard, go around the room asking about any concerns or thanksgivings before a time of Prayer.   Leave this paper where you can see it all week, discuss them everyday and see where God might be working in them.
