  • Overview
    • Sometimes it’s hard to see what is happening in our lives or in the world, even when it is happening right before us.  Today we spend a little extra time in celebration of Jesus the Christ being risen from the grave.  In Luke 24 news of Jesus, the great teacher, is what is being talked about all over Jerusalem.  At this point there has been some rumors of Jesus’ tomb being found empty.  It is here we find a couple of guys walking and talking when a stranger joins the conversation. Let me encourage you to be attentive as the story is direct, has ghost like crazy things happen, all in the  joy and celebration of things to come.  Take a few moments and read Luke 24.

  • Discussion questions:
    • Go around the room and discuss your first thoughts about the story.
    • Additional questions
          1. [Children] Where were the two men headed on their journey?
          2. [Children] What were they talking about on the journey? Isn’t it strange they didn’t recognize Jesus?
          3. [Children - Adults] With all that is happening with the Coronavirus it’s hard to understand that their might be some people that do not know anything is going on.  How would you respond if one of your friends called you and had no clue what has gone on in the world these past few weeks?
          4. [Children - Adults] The bible tells us the stranger challenged the two to believe in the scriptures and to have confidence.  What does the Bible tell us Jesus (or the stranger) used to support the conversation?
          5. [Children] When they were all eating together Jesus broke bread, it is at this point they recognized it was Jesus.  Describe what you think it was like when Jesus disappeared?
          6. [Teens - Adults] If you could imagine an emotion in the room, what do you think it would’ve been when Jesus disappears? Excitement, numbness, scared?
          7. [Teens - Adults] Talk about a time when you experienced something which the energy of the moment moved you to share it with someone?
          8. [Teens] There are several movies and TV shows that depict this concept of a close person reappearing. Movies like Iron Man and Spider man come to mind.  Think about the significance these re-appearances make in the storyline of the movie.  What significance does Jesus appearing to these people make in the storyline of our faith and the kingdom of God?
          9. [Children - Adults] For you, what Christian song comes to mind that expresses the moment and emotions connected to the Easter story?
          10. Take a moment and pray for peace and understanding in this moment. Pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the resurrection.   Pray that we can have the confidence to trust in God when everything around us tells us otherwise.
